Man of Steel is a 2013 film that is directed Zack Snyder (Zack Snyder also directed other films such as 300 and Sucker Punch) and is then produced by Christopher Nolan (Producer/Directer of The Dark Knight Trilogy and Inception). Superman, is an American superhero, this film is based on the DC Comics written by Jerry Siegal in 1933. The film was distributed by Warner Bros. (Also distributed other films such as The Dark Knight Trilogy)

The plot of this film starts off with the home planet of Superman, Krypton, being underthreat of destruction due to its 'Unstable core' and is also underthreat by its ruling counsil who is lead by the rebel leader, General Zod and his followers. Scientists Jor-El and his wife Lara launch their naturally born son, Kal-El, whilst on the space craft to Earth, which his genetic code (DNA) was encripted with a code to help preserve the Kryptonian race. Zod murders Jor-El for stealing the codex (Krypton code), Zod is then captured by the Kryptonian Soldiers and is then banished. Krypton then collapses and is then destroyed due to the unstable core some time afterwards.
The infant, Kal-El, is raised as an adopted son by a married couple named Jonathan and Martha Clark. Kal-El is then renamed as Clark, which we all know that Clark Kent is Supermans alter ego. On Earth, Clark Kent's Kryptonian abilities enable him to be 'Superhuman' giving him superpowers over time. This causes him to be confused about whats around him, but overtime he is able to control his powers and use them to help people who are in need/use the powers for good. When Clark is a teenager, his adopted father, Jonathan, tells him the trust about where he is from, enabling him to find out that he is not from Earth. Jonathan advises him not to use is 'powers' whilst in Public. After when Jonathen dies, Clark Kent spends several years living a 'normal' life, going from job to job going under false names, but in secret, helping people who are in need, but aswell struggling to cope over the death of his adoptive father. Clark then discovers in the Arctic a Kryptonian Scout spaceship, where a preserved conscience of Jor-El appears in a shape of a hologram. The reporter for the 'Daily Planet' Lois Lane, follows Clark into the discovery, so she can get a story about the 'Supernatural' discovery. Clark rescues Lois when she's injured. The editor for the 'Daily Planet' rejects Lois' story about a 'Superhuman' being that is amongst us. Lois follows Clark to Kansas, hoping that she can expose him, but after hearing his story about his life, she decides not to reveal him to the world.
Zod and his followers/crew seek out other worlds and then eventually follows a Kryptonian 'distress' signalwhich is sent by the discovered ship that Clark found whilst in the Arctic. Zod demands for the surrender of Kal-El (Clark Kent), which Zod believes that Clark holds the codex, this was in return for peace. Clark agrees these terms and the US military hands him over with Lois to Zod's seconds-in-command, Faora. Zod then reveals to Lois and Clark that he is intending to transform Earth into the new Krypton, whilst in the process, wiping out the whole human population. Also using the codex to repopulate the whole of the Kryptonian race. Clark and Lois escape from Zod's ship, Clark then defeats Faora and then convinces the US Military that he is an ally, trying to help save their planet. Zod also escapes and then deploys the 'World-engine'.
Clark is now named as "Superman", Clark then stops Zod's plan and stops the World Engine. Clark (Superman) destroys the ship, which provides vital Krypton information and technology, this includes the Genesis Chamber, which could restore the whole of the Kryptonian Race with the help of the Codex, which Clark is the holder of. The Military use the ship which was founded by Clark to use an arial strike to wipe out Zod's ship. This wipes of Zod's army, by enveloping them in a black hole. Zod then engages in a fight with Superman (Clark Kent) but Zod is defeated, an attempt to kill civilians due to his defeat, Superman has no choice but to kill Zod. Some time later, Clark (Superman) continues to earn the respect of the US Military and also their trust, evading them to not unveil his true identity. Where ever there would be danger, Clark (Superman) would turn up and try and help the situation, with people left in suspicion on 'Who is Superman'. Afterwards, Clark takes up the job as a reporter for the Daily Planet.

Man of Steel Poster analysis

This is the most recent Man of Steel poster. As we see from this poster, it draws the audience in as it is vibrant and eye catching. This is a huge selling point for people to come see the film. Firstly, we see from the poster a blurred background off the city. This promotes the fact that Superman (Henry Cavill) is 'flying' at an imense speed. This portrays supermans powers, being able to fly at very high speeds. This is very common in superhero films. We next see the superman logo tice in this poster, once on the front of supermans costime and then again in a more animated and complex style behind the Man of Steel title. This promotes that it is a superhero film, also that everyone knows the superman logo. It also helps people analyse that it is superman, just because of the movie title not including the words 'Superman'. This all represents the film as being an action/Sci-fi flim. We see a slight light on the top left of the poster, this could being the sun just to represent supermans powers of being able to fly or it could interpritate an alien invasion, which does happen later on in the film.

The title 'Man of Steel' is in a dark blend of silver and black, with a flare above the 'S'in Steel, this makes the title stand out and slightly eye catching, meaning that it will attract the target audience. The use of facial expression of superman infers that hes serious and determined to save people which is what the film poster wants the audience to infer and see which is what action films want to get across to the audience. The use of mise-en-scene the clothing of superman infers that he is superman as he is wearing a superman costume. The location of the film poster is a busy city this infers that there shall be crime which is whats included in a horror genre film within the film industry.

The Unique Selling Points - The USP of the film shows that superman is the protagonist, where everything is about him/what the story is based on. The title Man of Steel has a unique selling point as this can portray Superman as being made from steel. This portrays Superman that he is 'invinsible' and that he can defeat anything thats in his way. The famous colours of Blue and Red on his costume is also a unique selling point as you know straight away that its Superman, this brings in the target audience, of comic book fanatics to people who love watching action films.
